  • Respawn Entertainment is rumored to be developing a next-gen port for "Apex Legends"
  • The game studio posted a job listing for a Senior Rendering Engineer to improve "Apex Legends" for next-gen consoles
  • PS5 and Xbox Series X are scheduled to be released this Holiday 2020

“Apex Legends” has been a massive hit since its 2019 release, and it seems like Respawn Entertainment is ready to ride its wave of popularity even further.

According to the latest reports, it is possible that the popular battle royale game could get a port for next-generation consoles. This is after Respawn posted a job listing on their website for a Senior Rendering Engineer who would “push next-gen platforms and the PC to their limits on Apex Legends.”

Further, in the job ad, Respawn noted they are looking for a “shader enthusiast” who enjoys “maintaining or improving visual fidelity” – suggesting that the focus would be on improving the game’s graphic quality.

While there is no official announcement yet that the game will indeed be released for the next-gen consoles, the advertisement is a clear-cut indicator that Respawn is working to bring “Apex Legends” to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

It is also worth noting that both PS5 and Xbox Series X will have backward compatibility support, so there should be no issues playing the current version of the game in PS5 and Xbox Series X. With that in mind, it appears Respawn wants to take advantage of the more powerful consoles to deliver a better and much-improved version of “Apex Legends.”

It remains to be seen what else is in store for “Apex Legends” when PS5 and Xbox Series X arrive in Holiday 2020. Respawn frequently provides content and updates, so it is not wrong for gamers to expect more new features coming in the game should it get its own next-gen port.

This development should also come as good news for fans waiting for Sony and Microsoft’s upcoming flagship gaming platforms. After all, games for both consoles are expected to be limited due to the delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Several major titles for current gaming consoles like “The Last of Us Part 2,” “Iron Man VR,” “Wasteland 3,” and “New World” have already been delayed this year due to the global health crisis, so production for future games have certainly been impacted as well by the situation in one way or another.
