KEY POINTS

  • Golden State Warriors isn’t going to be swayed by the hype of the top highly-touted prospects
  • Reports say that the Warriors might pick Anthony Edwards or just trade the pick away if they win the lottery pick
  • The team is high on getting the top international prospect Deni Avdija from Maccabi Tel Aviv

The NBA season may be suspended indefinitely for now but the anticipation for the 2020 NBA Draft is just too big for the virus spread to stop, especially when the last season’s runner-up could potentially be the one to draft first from the draft pool.

That, however, will be possible if they win the draft lottery.

With their current record, the Golden State Warriors are on track of being awarded a pick within the top five and the possibility of getting the top pick is also big. Despite the opportunity to get the most talked-about prospects from the draft, the Warriors don’t seem to be convinced in getting them.

Reports from the San Francisco Chronicle says that the Warriors have other plans with their draft selection should they get the rights of picking first in the draft. Connor Letourneau wrote that they have two options – trade away that number one pick or draft the Georgia Bulldogs guard Anthony Edwards.

They are not taking away the talent that the 18-year old Edwards can bring to Oakland but it is just that the team is anticipating the return of their star players Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson from their respective injuries – Curry with a broken hand and Thompson with a torn ACL from their NBA Finals showdown against the Toronto Raptors – and the chance of making him the sixth or seventh guy off the bench will not make him look good.

If there is someone who the Warriors is after, it is the 18-year old Deni Avdija from Israel. The 6-foot-9, the wingman from Maccabi Tel-Aviv, according to Letourneau, has the potential to become an All-Star.

With the offense still centered around the Splash Brothers, Avdija will have his niche on the rotation line-up with his passing ability and his defensive capabilities and gives him the upside that will fit the Warriors’ system for the years to come.

The current NBA season is still suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak but once the games resume and the draft pushes through, expect the new and upcoming stars to flock and prove themselves worthy of playing in the highest level of basketball.
