KEY POINTS

  • Isaiah Thomas was waived by the Los Angeles Clippers after being shipped by Washington
  • His first stint with the Los Angeles Lakers is a forgetful one, mainly due to his injury
  • Giving him a chance to be the scorer that they are looking for will give him a chance to redeem himself to the Lakers fans

All that Dwight Howard wanted on his return to the Los Angeles Lakers is a redemption for a not-so-good showing with the team during his first stint with the purple and gold years back and it is safe to say that he was successfully able to get his redemption for the Lakers fan despite a diminished role.

Another player who wore the Lakers uniform should also be given that same opportunity. Now that he appears to have recovered from his injury that wobbled him after his MVP season, he found himself moving to another team and was subsequently waived despite his rising performance. The Lakers recently signed Dion Waiters, but if they wanted to add a shooter, there is a name that surely rings a bell.

The last time we heard of him, all he wanted to do is to hoop.

Isaiah Thomas was the Washington Wizards’ starting point guard before a three-team trade before the deadline relieved him of his court general duties and was sent to the Los Angeles Clippers. On that said trade, he was joined by Marcus Morris to the Clippers, Jerome Robinson goes to the capital city and the New York Knicks landed Maurice Harkless and a first-round pick for this upcoming draft.

In his tenure with the Wizards, he was averaging 12.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 rebounds, in 40 games as he is slowly getting back to shape after his injuries. His stay with the Lakers isn’t really bad if we will look at the numbers – 15.6 points, five assists, and 2.1 rebounds a game in his 17 games with them. At the start of the 2018 season, he was with the Cleveland Cavaliers before another trade had his name on it and shipped him to California.

He had an 8-9 win-loss card for the Lakers, who are trying to figure things out moving on from the post-Kobe Bryant era. The fans aren’t happy about the outcome of that season and with Thomas only limited to 17 games and still has not fully recovered from his hip injury, he was unable to play at his best for the Laker fans.

Now that the talks are circling that they still want to add up a scorer to the line-up, Thomas deserves a second-look knowing his desire to play basketball after getting the momentum from his Washinton stint. Howard was almost at the same situation – was traded by Washington to Memphis and was waived before the Lakers took a chance on his and earned back the love of the Lakers fans since then.

Thomas is not a bad option at all – can score, can pass – despite being a liability on defense due to his 5-foot-9 frame but he is one tough guy to defend when he’s in the zone. Also, a reunion between him and LeBron James won’t hurt as they would need each other to bring the Larry back to Staples Center.
