A minor girl in India who ran away from her parents' house was raped by a man who promised to help her get back home safely, reports said.

The unidentified minor girl from Jhansi, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, reportedly ran away from her house on Jan.15 after getting upset over her parents scolding her.

The girl reportedly boarded a train wanting to get to her grandfather's house in Mahoba, a city around 100 miles away from her hometown. However, she boarded the wrong train and reached Etawah, a city that was 150 miles away, the Times of India reported.

When all the passengers got out at the Etawah station, the girl sat alone on the train, clueless about where to go at night. Meanwhile, the suspect, now identified as Raj Kapoor Yadav, a worker in charge of cleaning the train spoke to the girl. The girl narrated her story, and Yadav promised to help her. He even reportedly called the girl's mother from his phone and assured her that her daughter will reach home safely the next morning.

However, Yadav then allegedly switched off his phone and raped the girl inside the locked carriage of the standing train. He then fled the scene, police said.

The next morning, the girl contacted the parents from another passenger's phone, and her parents picked her up from the station.

The horrific abuse came to light when the girl shared her ordeal after reaching home. The police registered a case against Yadav and arrested him Tuesday by tracking his phone.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime. He would face charges including rape and sexual assault of a minor, news outlet Latest LY reported.

In a similar incident reported earlier this month, a man was arrested in Texas for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old runaway girl multiple times. The suspect, Lyndell Tony Horton, 24, threatened the unidentified girl with a gun and took her to an apartment. Horton reportedly used "physical force and violence" to force the minor girl to have sex with him eight to 10 times for several hours, reports said.
