Russell Brand Opens Up About Marriage With Katy Perry: ‘She Was Lovely’

Russell Brand is once again opening up about his marriage to Katy Perry. But this time around, the actor has nothing but good things to say about his ex-wife.

On Thursday, Brand appeared on “The Wendy Williams Show” and reflected on his marriage to the “Roar” singer. “She was lovely. She’s such a lovely person, I’ve got nothing but love for her,” he said. Williams asked if their popularity was a factor in their marriage not working out, Brand said, “Oh yeah. It was a bit difficult to tell what’s going on in such a situation. But it was a very, very, wonderful time,” he said.

The “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” actor also weighed in on his ex-wife’s upcoming gig as judge in “American Idol” reboot.” Brand admitted that he is not knowledgeable when it comes to reality TV competitions, but thinks that Perry will be a good judge. “I wish her all the best in all of her endeavors,” he said.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Brand and Perry tied the knot in 2014, but the actor filed for divorce 14 months later due to irreconcilable differences. In the past, Brand has not necessarily spoken positively of his Perry. In 2015, the “Get Him to the Greek” actor admitted that he couldn’t handle the celebrity lifestyle that went along with marrying the “Dark Horse” singer.

In his documentary, “BRAND: A Second Coming,” he called Perry’s lifestyle “vapid.” In the video, the actor is heard cursing as footage of him and Perry walking through a crowd of paparazzi is shown. According to the Daily Mail, Brand and Perry’s divorce was partly a result of what happened to them in Africa in 2010.

The publication revealed that Brand had a conversation with his good friend, Stephen Merchant, about his marriage. The actor said that it was “not a resolution to anything spiritual.” He added, “At some point, to be happy, I’m going to have to walk away.”

Brand is now married to Laura Gallacher, and they have been blessed with a daughter. “You know what we got now? A human baby. It got out of her. It’s been nothing but demanding the moment it emerged… It may well have conquered new territory in my heart and shown me love that I never thought possible,” he said on Williams’ show.
