  • Buccaneers coach Bowles confirmed Gage was concussed
  • The player saw some movement in his fingers after evaluation at the hospital

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Russell Gage suffered a concussion after being injured during his team's playoff against the Dallas Cowboys Monday night.

Toward the end of the fourth quarter of the game, Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson made contact with Gage while he was trying to haul in an incomplete pass by Tom Brady. Gage stumbled and fell on his rear at the same point when Wilson leaned in for a tackle.

The awkward impact resulted in Wilson colliding with Gage's helmet, injuring the latter in his neck and jaw.

A video of the scary on-field moment was shared on Twitter, showing Gage trying to get up thrice but failing to get his back off the ground. Moments later, athletic trainers rushed to the ground to his rescue.

Players from both teams prayed for Gage while the on-ground medical staff was checking him.

The scene was alike the Damar Hamlin situation where players were seen openly weeping and praying for him after he went into cardiac arrest during Night Football on Jan.2.

Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles issued an update on Gage's health after the game, confirming that the wide receiver was concussed. He added he was being evaluated at the hospital for a neck injury and that the player could move his fingers.

While the full details of Gage's injury remain undisclosed, there's an outpour of love, prayers, and support for the player online.

"Prayers up for Russell Gage.. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.. Held my breath while he was down.. Everyone thinks the worst when another player doesn't immediately get up or the injury isn't minor.. God Bless," an user wrote on Twitter.

"Prayers 4 Russell Gage. Football is a rough and tumble sport. These men perform for our entertainment and it's so sad to see any of them go down with terrible injuries," another added.

"2022-2023 NFL season is scary. Way too many serious injuries. It happened again tonight. It keeps getting more dangerous. Hope Russell Gage has a healthy recovery," one of the Twitter users posted.

"Be thankful Russell Gage and his injury doesn't lead all news and interviews. Like Damar Hamlin's injury did. That's because Mr Gage's injury is not nearly on the same level as Mr Hamlin's was. And THAT is something to be thankful for!" opined another.
