Russell Wilson Shares Secret To Keeping His Marriage To Wife Ciara Strong

Russell Wilson got candid about his marriage to his wife Ciara and how they make it work through the years.

Wilson, 32, and Ciara, 35, have been married for five years already. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight after he was named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, the quarterback shared how they keep their relationship exciting even after being together for half a decade with two kids: daughter Sienna, 3, and son Win, 6 months.

"You got to keep it sexy, you got to keep it romantic, you got to constantly put each other first, and we have our date nights every Friday," he told ET. "We try to do our thing and have our one-on-one time and make sure that we spend that quality time doing something fun together. That's one key thing."

Aside from spending quality time together, the athlete put importance on communication. For him, "communication is key," so they always talk about anything. He also mentioned the need to "keep competing" to win a partner.

"Just constantly communicating. We're always talking, we're always loving on each other, making sure we're constantly asking how we're doing, this and that. We always want to make sure our souls are well… We're always focused on that," he continued.

"So communication, keeping it sexy, and I think the third part of it is, as a man we got to keep competing. We got to keep competing. I think that so many times as men, I think we get so settled down on, you know, 'OK, we're good. OK cool.' And I think that you got to keep that energy throughout every day, throughout every week and throughout because it's worth it. It's worth it and I like winning.”

Wilson also believed that "staying engaged" and being "in the moment" are important. Couples should be sensitive to their partner's need and should listen to them. He also suggested leaving small surprises throughout the day. It doesn't have to be grand, a text, video or sticky notes that would make one's partner feel better would do.

The football player also admitted that his greatest fear is “losing” his wife because Ciara “means everything to me.” Ciara and Wilson have been married since June 6, 2016. They tied the knot at the Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, England. The couple met in 2015 following her separation from her then-fiancé Future, whom she shares son, Future Jr., with.

In 2017, the couple shut down the Seattle Art Museum for a romantic date. Ciara shared several photos and videos documenting their fun date on Instagram.
