Singer-songwriter Ryan Adams has issued an apology after being accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women.
In a statement obtained by Daily Mail, the 45-year-old musician apologized for how he “mistreated” people in the past. Adams wrote that he is unable to find words to express how “bad” he feels about the issue and all he could say is “sorry” for what he has done.
The “Do You Still Love Me?” hitmaker continued by saying that the period of “isolation” has made him realize that he needs to make some really important changes in his life.
“There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I have mistreated people throughout my life and career. All I can say is that I am sorry. It is that simple. This period of isolation and reflection made me realize that I needed to make significant changes in my life,” Adams wrote in his statement.
The apology comes a year after he was accused of sexual misconduct by seven women, including his ex-wife Mandy Moore. The actress told The New York Times that Adams would not let her work with other music producers and acted in ways that she considered “psychologically abusive.”
“His controlling behavior essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time — my entire mid-to-late 20s,” Moore told the media outlet at the time.
Moore was married to Adams from 2009 to 2016.
According to NME, the “Wonderwall” singer previously denied all the accusations and noted that the allegations were “grousing by disgruntled individuals” who were blaming him for their own disappointments.
In his recent statement, Adams noted that he is “fully accountable” for his inappropriate behavior and he hopes that people would forgive him for what he has done to them.
“No amount of growth will ever take away the suffering I had caused. I will never be off the hook and I am fully accountable for my harmful behavior and will be for my actions moving forward. I hope that the people I have hurt will heal. And I hope that they will find a way to forgive me,” Adams wrote in the statement.
