Ryan Dunn's Estate Sued For Car Crash That Led To Death Of Zachary Hartwell

Ryan Dunn (34), whose car accident claimed not only his life, but the life of passenger, Zachary Hartwell (30), happened over a year ago. But now, Ryan Dunn's estate is facing a lawsuit regarding the death of Hartwell, according to Reality TV Magazine. Hartwell's parents are the ones filing the suit, looking to recover costs for their son's funeral, as well as revenue their son would have generated over his lifetime.

The Hartwells claim "they've lost the services, guidance, and comfort of their son. And they want Dunn's estate to cover expenses associated with Zach's death, including funeral costs." The Hartwells are going for the jugular, demanding that the Dunn estate pay for the "pre-impact fright, fear, pain and suffering," their son incurred during the crash.

Reuters doesn't have a figure related to exactly how much the Hartwells are seeking, however; the costs related to funeral expenses and revenue generated over a lifetime of work could be incredibly high. Unlike a traditional trial, the Hartwells' trial will have actuaries and agents standing in for the party being sued.

Dunn was apparently driving over 130 miles per hour when he crashed his Porsche GT3 into a tree in Pennsylvania. Hartwell's parents are also suing the owners of Barnaby's West Chester, the bar Dunn and Hartwell were drinking at the day of the crash. The "Jackass" star even tweeted a picture of himself drinking not long before the crash, though the images have since been removed from the internet. "The initial crash reconstruction investigation determined that Mr. Dunn's vehicle was traveling between 132-140 mph at the time of the collision," the West Goshen Police Chief, Mike Carroll, said in a statement at the time.

Ryan Dunn was legally intoxicated when the accident occurred, according to The Hollywood Gossip. Dunn's car essentially erupted into a fireball, with the men inside suffering "blunt, thermal trauma." Dunn's blood-alcohol level was 0.196 percent. The Pennsylvania legal state limit is 0.08.
