Authorities in Nebraska continue to search for a missing 11-year-old autistic boy who walked out of his elementary school last week.

Police are seeking the public's help to locate Ryan Larsen of La Vista who has been missing since he left his school on May 17.

A missing alert has already been issued for Larsen who is described as a white male child with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 125 pounds.

He has been without medication for seizure since he disappeared.

La Vista Police focused their search for Larsen at the Walnut Creek Recreation Area Saturday after a police K9 picked up a scent from the location. Officials have taken steps to lower the water level at the area for better visual and physical access, La Vista police said in an update.

Police used the K9 team and a state patrol helicopter to assist them while searching the lake, wooded area and miles of trails.

In addition to the search effort by the local team, Larsen's disappearance has also been posted on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's website, New Haven Register said in a report.

The missing child, who has a history of running away and hiding from his family, had already been located by the department at least half a dozen times before, police said. However, Larsen had never gone missing for days at a stretch.

Investigators looked into the boy's recent online search history and found that he had searched for ways to hide from the police. He reportedly looked up phrases such as, "hiding from police," "hiding underground" and "how to avoid being spotted" on his computer.

"He likes to hide in the weirdest spots. He could very well be watching us right now, laughing at us," Capt. Jeremy Kinsey of La Vista police said as per KETV. "He's playing the ultimate game of hide and seek on us now and he's winning."

According to La Vista Police Chief Bob Lausten, there is no information to indicate that there is anyone in the water but the investigators are trying to check all boxes. He said that many deputies of La Vista police knew the boy personally.

"Ryan had brought us Christmas gifts at Christmas so there's a relationship that we have, you know with him specifically, and it cuts, it cuts deep," Lausten said.

Officials are advising people not to approach the child if they see him. Instead, they should call 911 and follow him from a safe distance.
