Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively Apologized For Controversial Wedding Venue: 'Deeply And Unreservedly Sorry'

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are still very regretful for choosing a controversial wedding venue when they tied the knot in 2012, so they issued another apology.

In an interview with Fast Company, the "Deadpool" star talked about their wedding venue when they exchanged "I dos" eight years ago. The couple married at Boone Hall, a former slave plantation in South Carolina.

"It’s something we’ll always be deeply and unreservedly sorry for," Reynolds said.

"It’s impossible to reconcile. What we saw at the time was a wedding venue on Pinterest. What we saw after was a place built upon devastating tragedy."

"The Proposal" actor revealed that they tied the knot again for the second time and decided to do the ceremony at home.

"Years ago we got married again at home—but shame works in weird ways. A giant [explicit] mistake like that can either cause you to shut down or it can reframe things and move you into action. It doesn’t mean you won’t [explicit] up again. But repatterning and challenging lifelong social conditioning is a job that doesn’t end," he continued.

Reynolds has focused his philanthropy efforts on social justice. He and his wife donated $1 million to the NAACP Legal Defense and Fund and the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights. The couple does not talk much about it, but when the controversy of their wedding venue resurfaced online, they issued a statement on Instagram and donated another $200,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

"We're ashamed that in the past we've allowed ourselves to be uninformed about how deeply rooted systemic racism is," they wrote.

"We want to educate ourselves about other people's experiences and talk to our kids about everything, all of it...especially our own complicity. We talk about our bias, blindness and our own mistakes. We look back and see so many mistakes which have led us to deeply examine who we are and who we want to become. They've led us to huge avenues for education."

The couple added that they are committed to raising their kids to the best of their ability, so they would never inflict hardships to others consciously or unconsciously.

In related news, Lively is set to star in Netflix's post-apocalyptic thriller "Dark Days at the Magna Carta." She will also be producing the thriller through her B for Effort production banner.
