KEY POINTS

  • Ryan Reynolds' "The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard" will premiere on June 16
  • The actor recently shared its official trailer on his Instagram account
  • The movie also features Salma Hayek and Samuel L. Jackson

Ryan Reynolds took to Instagram Tuesday to share the official trailer of "The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard," which is all set to be released on June 16.

"Hit Me Salma One More Time," Reynolds wrote in the caption. "#ReleaseTheRedBand."

The trailer begins with Reynolds' character winning the Bodyguard of the Year award and Samuel L. Jackson's character laughing at him.

In the following scene, Reynolds' character can be seen talking to a psychiatrist who eventually advises him to "forget bodyguarding." He follows the psychiatrist's advice and takes a vacation afterward.

"I'm officially on sabbatical and, to be honest, I don't know why I didn't do this sooner," Reynolds' character says while relaxing at the beach. "It's as if the world's been waiting for me to make this change. For the first time, I'm starting to imagine a life without body guarding."

However, things don't go as planned. His supposedly peaceful vacation gets interrupted by Salma Hayek's character, the wife of the man Jackson is portraying. She recruits Reynold's character to rescue her husband.

The rest of the teaser flaunts the chemistry between the three celebrities and how their characters work together once again to keep Jackson's character safe.

While all this is happening, Britney Spears' "Baby... One More Time" is playing in the background.

"The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard," Patrick Hughes' directorial debut, is a sequel to the 2017 action-comedy movie "The Hitman's Bodyguard." Also starring in the movie are Morgan Freeman, Antonio Banderas, Frank Grillo and Richard E. Grant.

Like other movies, it was originally scheduled for early release in 2020. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, its launch has faced major delays.

Besides "The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard," Reynolds will also be seen in "Free Guy," an action-comedy film that is scheduled for release on August 13. The movie is directed by Shawn Levy while its screenplay is by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn.

Meanwhile, Hayek will be seen in the action-adventure movie "The Eternals," which is expected to come out at the end of this year. The 54-year-old actress will also be featured in "House of Gucci" and "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish."

As for Jackson, he will be in "Spiral," a horror-thriller movie that will premiere on May 14. It's penned by Chris Rock, James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Jackson will also appear in Martin Campbell's directorial debut "The Asset," which is all set for its April 23 release.
