Sam Smith believes they had contracted the coronavirus despite not having been tested.

According to People, the 27-year-old singer opened up their self-diagnosis during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music via Facetime. Smith said they believe they have COVID-19 despite not having gotten medical confirmation.

“I didn’t get tested but I know I have it,” Smith disclosed.

Smith, along with their sister, reportedly showed symptoms similar to that of COVID-19. The Grammy-winning singer also claimed that they were "100% sure" they contracted the virus upon showing these symptoms. "Everything I’ve read completely pointed to that. So yeah, I think I definitely had it," the crooner shared.

Before the breakneck diffusion of the coronavirus in the U.K., Smith said they were already experiencing the onset of the virus’ symptoms. They also reported that their sister started exhibiting the same set of symptoms within the week. The singer then self-isolated with their sister for three weeks in their Los Angeles home.

“I’ve got an older Nan, so we didn’t want to risk anything,” the singer said.

While in quarantine, Smith also opened up about how the illness impacted their productivity. The singer recounted that in the first few weeks, they were still inspired to sing more until the urge to do so eventually rubbed out.

“The first two weeks I was like, 'I just want to sing. I don't want to sing my songs, I don't want to sing and film it, I just want to walk around the house and sing,'" they shared. "I started sitting in my living room singing along to backing tracks of old Corinne Bailey Rae tunes. All these songs I used to just love singing. Old Stevie [Wonder] songs. And yeah, it just felt really good. But then I lost that a week later. I didn't want to sing.”

Smith started using more gender inclusive pronouns just last year, with the singer now preferring “they/them,” USA Today reported. The “How Do You Sleep” singer also took to Instagram to announce the postponement of their upcoming third album, formerly titled “To Die For.” The album’s release, which was supposedly set this coming May 1, will no longer make its due date as the singer believes it’s not suitable, especially during these times.

Smith also revealed that they will continue working on the album by making some important changes and additions. The singer also confirmed that the album will be renamed and promised that the release will still push through within the year.

On a lighter note, the Grammy-winning star and their sister have reportedly already recovered from the symptoms. “As everyone was kind of really on lockdown, that's when I got over it, luckily,” Smith said.
