Samsung Announces New Galaxy Tab 3 Series: 10.1-Inch And 8-Inch Android Tablets Will Feature Intel Processors
Samsung has announced two new versions of its flagship Galaxy tablets on Monday. The new Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch and 8-inch will be available globally in the beginning of June.
Although Samsung has not revealed processor details of both the versions of the Galaxy Tab 3, the tablets are expected to be powered by dual-core Intel processors, Reuters reported.
Samsung’s decision to sport Intel is considered to be an achievement for the U.S.-based chipmaker as it has been trying to gain a foothold in the mobile devices market.
In an earlier report in May, Reuters claimed that the South Korean tech giant had chosen Intel's Clover Trail+mobile chip for its upcoming Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 that would compete with Apple’s iPad.
The company has employed Intel processors for its ATIV-branded tablets running Microsoft’s Windows operating system. But the new Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8 will be the first Android tablets ever to have Intel-manufactured chips under the hood.
The 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 3 features a 1280 x 800 pixels Thin Film Transistor, or TFT, display, 1GB RAM, a 3-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity that can be expanded using a microSD card. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is pre-loaded on the tablet with the usual Samsung TouchWiz interface.
The device is stacked with a 1.6GHz Dual Core processor and has a thickness of less than eight millimeters. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch weighs 510 grams and will be available with both 3G and 4G cellular connectivity.
The 8-inch version of the Galaxy Tab 3 also sports a display with a 1280 x 800 resolution at 189 Pixels Per Inch, or PPI. The device’s chipset clocks 1.5 GHz, supported by 1.5GB RAM.
In terms of storage, the Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch has 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable using a microSD slot. As for other features, the device sports a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch also runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and will be available with 3G and 4G cellular connectivity.
