Samsung Galaxy A8s Rumored To Feature A Hole In Its Display
Samsung has launched the Galaxy A6s and the Galaxy A9s in China. And now the company announced a third phone called the Galaxy A8s, which is rumored to feature a true bezel-less design.
Samsung didn’t provide specific details about the Galaxy A8s, but it did say that the handset will come with a “first-time adoption” technology, according to Phone Arena. Samsung then showed a teaser image of what the Galaxy A8s might look like and it appears the device will have little to no bezels on all sides. The device that the company teased also doesn’t appear to have a notch anywhere in sight.
Leaker Ice Universe revealed on Twitter (now deleted) that the “first-time adoption” technology that Samsung teased for the Galaxy A8s will be its display. The handset will allegedly have a bezel-less display that will have a small hole on top to accommodate the front-facing camera. It’s still unclear where this hole will be located, but a concept art is now floating around the web, showing how the hole will look like in different positions on the display.
The device will still have very slim bezels around the display. The bezel on top will house the earpiece and other sensors. The bezel on the bottom of the bezel will also be thin, but not as thin as the ones found on the other sides.
The alleged design of the Galaxy A8s may be Samsung’s solution to a true bezel-less smartphone without having to remove the front-facing camera. This solution may also be better than a notch, which can typically be a distraction when watching video content in full screen.
Putting a hole in the display also removes the necessity to put moving parts on the handset, which is what Chinese Android manufacturers are currently doing. Both Vivo and Oppo are using moving parts to hide the the cameras on their respective full-screen phones, while Xiaomi’s newly announced Mi Mix 3 uses an old-school style slider design.
It’s currently being rumored that the Galaxy A8s will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor. If this were true, then the handset could arrive with a triple-camera setup on its back. It’s also being speculated that the Galaxy A8s might pack a 3,000mAh battery. Samsung didn’t say when it will release the Galaxy A8s, but it may arrive sometime in early 2019, according to SamMobile.
