KEY POINTS

  • A new set of leaked 'actual images' of Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 surfaced online
  • Images show a clamshell-like design similar to classic flip phones and Motorola RAZR
  • Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is reportedly unveiling on Feb. 18, 2020, along with the Samsung Galaxy S11 series

For months, we have been hearing rumors about the next iteration of the revolutionary Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. Leaks and speculations are rife online about the features and specs of the next generation foldable smartphone from the Seoul-based tech and electronics giant. But, the latest leaks reveal not only a render but the actual or real-life images of Samsung Galaxy Fold 2.

Popular and reliable gadget sleuth Ice Universe shared on social site Twitter a set of actual images of Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. The images look remarkably similar to the renders as well as to the alleged original Samsung concept that earlier surfaced online. On Chinese social site Weibo, similar images of the alleged Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 also surfaced.

These alleged ‘real-life’ Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 images underline that Samsung will drop the slab-like design of the current generation Galaxy Fold, which opens horizontally like a book. Instead, it will have a foldable smartphone that is reminiscent of the classic flip phones we have back in the early 2000s. Thanks to these actual images, we have learned some details about the next-generation foldable smartphone from Samsung.

It appears that Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will have a more straightforward design at the back sporting a dual-camera pod flanked by a single LED flash. Additionally, there is a striking monochrome display, which seems to show the date, time, and battery percentage. Moreover, the ‘cover display’ seems smaller compared to the one in the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

In front of Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, there is not much to see except for the portrait-like display that folds with a horizontal hinge. Thick bezels are also noticeable along with the hole punch cutout, which likely houses the selfie camera. So far, that is all that we can tell about the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 based on these leaked images.

We will hear more about Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 when it finally unveils on Feb. 18, 2020, in an event in San Francisco. The next-generation foldable smartphone from Samsung will reportedly launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy S11 series. At this point, we do not have information about the retail price of Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, but the current generation Samsung Galaxy Fold is available at around $2,000 price point.
