One of the key contributors to Samsung's success to become the leading smartphone manufacturer in the world by pulling down Apple from the top spot has been the big guy Galaxy Note. As of now, the device has seen more than seven million worldwide sales, an increase of two million over the figures announced by the company in March. South Korean conglomerate Samsung had some very special products that helped it dethrone Apple as the leading smartphone manufacturer in the world recently. The big guy Galaxy Note that has narrowed the gap between a smartphone and a tablet has been among the key contributors to Samsung's success. While the newly released Galaxy S3 is expected to give Apple iPhone a run for its money, reports surfacing online say that a sequel to the Galaxy Note is also nearing release as early as end August.

Last week, Korean publication MK Business News came up with a report, in which it said that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 2 during the IFA 2012, a consumer electronics show held in Berlin, Germany in late-August. The report also hinted that the device would feature a 5.5-inch display, which is slightly larger than the current 5.3-inch display.

Now, another Korean news website DDaily claimed that Samsung would indeed introduce the Galaxy Note 2 at a Mobile Unpacked event at IFA 2012 trade show in Berlin. The report stated that the event would take place on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. with the agenda to unveil the successor to the existing Galaxy Note.

According to earlier rumors, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 would feature a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a quad-core Exynos processor. The device is also expected to sport an improved camera with a bumped up resolution of 12 or 13 megapixels, up from the current 8.0 megapixels found on the existing model.

However, the device is not likely to come with an unbreakable plane display (UBP) as previous reports suggested. The UBP technology is a precursor to the flexible display, which is likely to be applied for the next product released after the Galaxy Note 2.

Slashgear reported that the Galaxy Note 2 would be made available in September to compete head-on against Apple's next generation iPhone, which is also expected to be released in September or October. It would be interesting to see how Samsung packs its device to remain undisputed in the smartphone battle arena, while Apple is also expected to fight hard to get back to the top.

Samsung said in February that it had sold over 2 million units of the Galaxy Note worldwide. One month later, the company announced that sales of the supersized Android smartphone had touched the 5 million units mark. By the end of 2012, Samsung expects to sell another 10 million units of the device, reported BGR.
