Samsung Galaxy Note 8 August Release Date Backed Up After Phone Specs Rumors

Recent reports from the South Korean publication The Bell indicate Samsung may announce the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 smartphone in August. According to the news source, Samsung has opted to keep the Galaxy Note 8 launch in sync with more recent release cycles for its fall flagships.

Samsung has unveiled its prior two premium phablets in the August timeframe, shifting from the early September launch, coinciding with IFA, to which pundits and consumers are accustomed. The Galaxy Note 7 was announced Aug. 2 and released Aug. 19 in 2016, while the Galaxy Note 5 was announced Aug. 13 and released Aug. 21 in 2015. Samsung used the early launch to break away from its competition’s launches, which include the iPhone, Google’s stock Android smartphones, and LG’s late-year flagships, among others.

However, the future of the Galaxy Note line has been called into question, after the repeated battery issues that caused the ultimate discontinuation of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. Samsung has confirmed that a Galaxy Note 8 will launch in 2017 and several rumors are circulating for the device. For now, there remains no confirmation from the manufacturer as to exactly when the device will be announced and or when we will know the Galaxy Note 8 release date.

Coinciding reports suggest Samsung could still return to IFA for the Galaxy Note 8 launch. However, The Bell claims Samsung may continue with an early launch to have the Galaxy Note 8 on the market before Apple’s 10th anniversary iPhone 8 smartphone.

Other recent reports have also suggested Samsung has accelerated the Galaxy Note 8 development for an earlier launch. The manufacturer has supposedly opted to continue using a rear-facing fingerprint scanner instead of the previously rumored on-screen optical fingerprint scanner to ensure the Galaxy Note 8 would be ready for an August launch.

After the Galaxy Note 7 battery issues, Samsung delayed the Galaxy S8 launch to ensure the device was at optimal safety standards. Instead of launching in late February during, Mobile World Congress, the smartphone was announced in mid-March in a standalone event in New York City. Samsung has similarly launched the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy Note 5 at standalone events, separate from industry conferences. That could make it likely Samsung will continue its release trend with the Galaxy Note 8.

The device is rumored to feature a 6.4-inch dual-edge curved display, a 13-megapixel dual-lens camera system, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 chip. The Galaxy Note 8 may miss out on running Google’s latest Android O software at launch and will likely ship with Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
