Samsung Galaxy S3 Promo Showcases Smart Features: How Does It Compare To Apple?s Siri Ads? [VIDEOS]
Samsung has already sold more than 6 million units of its Galaxy S3 smartphone in the month of June alone, but that doesn't mean the company is done pushing its product. A new promotional video from the South Korean manufacturer showcases the new smart features that accompany its flagship device of the year.
Highlighted in the advertisement are the S Voice, Smart Stay, Smart Alert, Direct Call and Social Tag features. It seems Samsung is bolstering the S3's eye tracking ability, which means that the gadget can sense whether a user is actively looking at the phone before turning the screen off automatically. In the opening sequence of the video, a user is seen playing guitar while reading sheet music from the Galaxy S3.
It stays awake when you do, reads the caption, referring to the fact that the user doesn't need to touch the screen to keep it lit. The video shows the device with and without Smart Stay side by side, with one screen fading while the other remains bright. The front-facing camera tracks eye movement on the display to prevent fadeout.
The Galaxy S3, which has been compared to Apple's iPhone by critics, analysts and fans, seems to be heightening the rivalry with its competitor with its new video ad. Apple's digital voice assistant Siri, comparable to Samsung's S Voice, is known for its series of promotional videos featuring celebrities such as Zooey Deschanel and Samuel L. Jackson. The commercials featuring the actors debuted in April and have showcased similar voice-enabled features.
Like the Siri iPhone advert, the first task for S Voice in Samsung's video is to check the weather. Although the Android versus iOS debate could go on forever, Apple seems to have scared Samsung in the courtroom. The company rolled out an update to its Sprint and AT&T variants recently that included a revised search function, restricting search results to only Google. It was presumed that this was a move to prevent further patent fights with Apple, since Samsung has already suffered a temporary injunction against its Galaxy Nexus devices.
But Monday the company confirmed to The Verge that the revamped search function was a precaution to prevent any more legal debacles, issuing the following statement:
Samsung has updated the software for the Galaxy S3 as a precautionary measure to ensure that U.S. consumers may enjoy using our innovative products without interruption.
After undergoing multiple release date setbacks due to high demand, the Galaxy S3 has finally launched across carriers. Check out the videos below to see the Galaxy S3's features in action and how they compare to Apple's iPhone.
