With this update, Galaxy S3 owners can enjoy a number of new features. For many, the S3 will be updating from Android 4.1.2, but the device shipped with Android 4.0.4.
One feature that has been adapted from the S4 is the screen modes adapt display and professional photo. Unfortunately, the S3 does not seem to have gotten any of the other fancy camera features that are seen on the S4. The Android 4.2.2 update also brings the S4 lockscreen to the S3, complete with allowance for multiple widgets, Light and Ripple unlock effects, with the ripple effect improved from Android 4.1.2, and the modifiable lock and personal message. In addition, the firmware update brings a new user interface that mimics that of the S4, as well as the new S-Voice and Voice control features derived from the successor smartphone.
Other updates include the introduction of the Daydream Easter egg and Actionable notifications, improvements to Driving mode, new options in the Notification Center, white background in Gallery modes, full-screen Samsung apps and a new smart switch widget.
Of course, with the update, the S3 will run Android 4.2.2. with the build ID JDQ39, which indicates it is in fact an official build update. We expect users should be able to find many other new and improved features in the build.
