Samsung Galaxy S3 Release: New Leaked Photo Reveals Possible Features, Specs
Samsung Galaxy S3 rumors have gained momentum after a photo was leaked on Reddit, which claims to have come from a Samsung employee who got a glimpse of the highly anticipated phone.
There is nothing about the photo that distinguishes itself from a generic Android smartphone, but the poorly taken photo--exhibiting a flash glare-- suggests it was taken in a rush by someone who was not permitted to do so.
According to Talk Android, the apparent Samsung employee published the picture on the social media site so they could share it with their friends. The post suggested that the phone might come with a duo Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) and Samsung's Touch Wiz software, although popular rumors say the phone will come with pure ICS.
ICS updates have started to roll out for the Galaxy S2, suggesting the next generation of Galaxy S will come with the pre-installed version of the software.
Release Date
Samsung is yet to announce the phone's release date and previous rumors about the phone's launch have been proven false.
Just two weeks ago a preorder page for phone appeared on a retail site that sells unlocked phones, but the ad had no shipment date and was later removed from the site.
The specs and features of the phone on the pre-order page included a 4.65-inch display and a 12-megapixel camera, 16GB of storage and a 720p display and a 1.8GHz quad-core processor.
The phones predecessor--the Galaxy S2--was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) last year, and then launched in April, which spurred rumors that the S3 would be out at the same time. But Samsung has said that Galaxy enthusiasts shouldn't hold their breath for a March release, as the phone is likely to come in the middle of the year, closer to the summer, according to a report obtained by News Sizzle.
Since the Galaxy S2 won the Best Phone award at the MWC 2012, more buzz has surrounded the S3. New information obtained by Boy Genius suggests the new generation of Galaxy S will be running a 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor. Boy Genius' site also claims the phone will come with 4G LTE and have a 4.8- inch screen with full HD 1080p resolution.
The Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Nexus were heralded as two of the most popular smartphones of 2011, with several features packed into a slim, sleek case. The success of these phones could be a contributing factor to the S3 delay.
Here is a roundup of the latest rumored features:
Processor: The S3 is expected to boast an Exynos 4412 chipset with a quad-core unit, which will apparently be clocked at 1.5GHz. The phone is guaranteed to arrive with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
Display: The S3 is expected to come with a larger screen than that of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, nearer to the 5-inch scale. It is rumored to have an AMOLED plus screen with 1280x720 resolution. If the phone comes with a S5K2P1 chip, it will be able to capture 60fps HD video and 8.3 megapixel images.
