Samsung Galaxy S3 vs S2: Will S2’s Ice Cream Sandwich Update Affect S3?
Samsung Galaxy S2 is receiving the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich update soon. Samsung Mobile's official Facebook page broke the news that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has officially made its way to Samsung I9100 Galaxy S2.
Samsung Galaxy S2, which is considered as the best Android smartphone yet, received overwhelming responses from the Android lovers from around the world.
Now the market buzz is that Samsung is expected to extend the version of its flagship range, moving from Galaxy S2 to Galaxy S3.
The expectations are so high that rumors surrounding S3 are getting juicier with every passing day. With path-breaking features and quad-core processors and a skyrocketing camera of 12 MP, Galaxy S3 is going to be the next big thing from Samsung, believe the smartphone lovers.
The latest rumors suggest that Galaxy S3 will hit the market in the third quarter of the year. If the Korean electronics giant packs in all the rumored features, Galaxy S3 will surely carry its predecessor's torch and become the best Android phone in the market.
It will indeed take a large bite out of the market shares for other smartphones and could be considered the industry's benchmark. But the irony is that once S2 receives the Ice Cream Sandwich, it will come at par with the S3.

Note, some of the rumored features of Galaxy S3, have not received any update and remained the same. For other features, changes have been incorporated accordingly.
Display: Samsung Galaxy S2 sports a 4.3-inch 800 x 480 pixels Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touch-screen with 217 ppi pixel density whereas Galaxy S3 is rumored is to have a bigger 4.6-inch HD 1280 x 720 pixels Super AMOLED Plus capacitive TouchWiz screen, with 319 ppi pixel density.
Display Protection: Both the devices have Corning Gorilla Glass display protection.
Input/Additional Features: Galaxy S2 has features like a TouchWiz 4.0 version User Interface (UI), touch-sensitive controls, an Accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass.
According to rumors, Galaxy S3 will have the same features but it might receive the latest TouchWiz UI version 5.0. The S3 is also expected to boast of 3D lenticular image technology, waterproof casings and a built-in bottle opener.
Processor: Galaxy S2 features a dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9, Exynos processor with 1GB RAM. The new Galaxy S3 will feature a quad-core, Exynos 4212/ Exyos 5250, 2GHz/ 1.8GHz processor with 2GB RAM.
Memory: Galaxy S2 has internal memory configurations of 16/32GB and an external microSD card that allows it to expand to 32GB. Galaxy S3 will have 16/32/64GB storage configurations and an external microSD card expandable up to 64GB.
Camera: Galaxy S2 comes with an 8 megapixel 3264x2448 pixels unit with 1080p video capture capabilities and a secondary 2 megapixel camera for video calling. If rumors are true, we might see Galaxy S3 sporting a 12 megapixel 4000x3000 pixels, LED flash camera with 1080p video capture and an additional 2 megapixel front-facing camera for video chats.
Camera Features: Cameras of both smartphones will sport the same features like autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilization.
4G LTE and NFC: While the Near Field Communication technology (NFC) is optional for Galaxy S2, the same would be integrated in Galaxy S3. Both smartphones provide 4G LTE support.
Battery: Galaxy S2 sports a standard battery with Li-Ion 1650 mAh whereas the Galaxy S3 is predicted to come with a 2250 mAh battery.
Wireless Charging: Galaxy S3 will come with the revolutionary wireless charging technology. In addition to charging the battery without the use of cables or plugs, one can share, sync or back-up data with this technology.
