Samsung Galaxy S3’s Rumored Quad-Core Exynos Chip Featured In New Meizu MX Smartphone, Out In June MEIZU

South Korean tech giant Samsung's highly anticipated Galaxy S3 smartphone will get a significant power boost up with a much-improved processor. This is the latest piece of rumor swirling around the web. At a time when speculations are rampant that a quad-core, Exynos processor would be featured in the next Samsung flagship smartphone, another new Android smartphone has been announced sporting the same.

On Monday, Chinese electronics manufacturer Meizu announced its Meizu MX smartphone featuring a powerful quad-core Exynos A9 processor. The MX Quad-core uses a power efficient quad-core Exynos A9 CPU with industry-leading 32 nm HKMG technology which has been optimized to reduce CPU power consumption by up to 20%. In addition, it will last even longer with a new 1700mAh battery, the company said via a press release.

The company claimed that Meizu MX is better in every way than its predecessor and promised 60 percent faster CPU performance and 50 percent faster GPU performance compared to the previous MX, thanks to the Samsung Exynos processor.

As far as the OS is concerned, the company said that the device will come with its unique Flyme OS based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Other features of the phone include a 4-inch 960 x 640 ASV display, 8-megapixel BSI camera with an f/2.2 lens aperture and two storage options - 32GB and 64GB (no expandable storage).

The company says that the Meizu MX Quad-core will be available in MEIZU's 400 retail stores during June at ¥2,999 ($475) and ¥3,999 ($633) for the 32GB and 64GB models, respectively. The company also reportedly reduced the price for the original 16GB dual-core MX to ¥2,399 ($380).

Exynos Chip And Samsung Galaxy S3

While all eyes are on the Samsung Galaxy S3 to unveil a quad-core Exynos chip, another Android smartphone has gone ahead and taken that spot with an official announcement - Meizu, said a report in Motoring Crunch.

The rumors so far have suggested that a quad-core, Exynos 4212/ Exyos 5250, 2 GHz/ 1.8 GHz processor with 2GB RAM would power the Galaxy S3. The phone is also expected to get major speed boosts on graphics and incorporate some battery-friendly power-saving features with its latest device.

In March, a purported leaked Galaxy S3 photo surfaced on Reddit suggesting that Samsung's upcoming smartphone might run two different launchers and would feature a quad-core Exynos 4412 chip. While information about two launchers seemed unlikely, the rumor about the Exynos chip did correspond to other reports that had also been betting on a 1.8GHz quad-core system-on-chip with built-in LTE to power the device.

A recent report in the Korea Times cited an anonymous Samsung executive who said that in order to lower the dependence on the US chipmaker Qualcomm, the company will use its single-chip solutions for its next smartphone, the Galaxy S3.

Samsung's single-chip solution is a combination of long-term evolution (LTE), telecommunications and W-CDMA functions, the executive told Korea Times. The smartphone will be equipped with Samsung's Exynos-branded quad-core mobile application processors (APs), the executive added.

The Exynos chip is currently built using a 45-nanometer process but the new Exynos chip will be made with 32-nanometer technology, giving better performance quality without using as much power, the report said. Samsung said that in terms of performance, it gives up to 26 percent more than the current 45-nanometer chip, with battery life improved by half. The new version will be used in the Galaxy S III.

According to earlier reports, Samsung was mulling over using Qualcomm's MSM8960, a system-on-chip that combines LTE and application processor into one, instead of Samsung's hardware or some blending of Samsung-Qualcomm parts.

However, the accumulating Samsung LTE modem to 32nm Exynos processor could nurse that problematic choice very easily and free up Samsung from having to rely on Qualcomm's consent for future products, according to The Verge.

Other Highly Rumored Features Of the Samsung Galaxy S3

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich: Galaxy S3 is likely to be available in the market with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Google's latest mobile operating system. Rumors also said that Galaxy S3's TouchWiz would be an upgraded one and would include Samsung hubs for music, reading, games and apps.

Thinner Than Galaxy S2: Samsung Galaxy S3 has been speculated to be thinner than the Galaxy S2. Given that Galaxy S2 is just 8.5 mm thick, Galaxy S3 will definitely have a wow factor if it does turn out to be thinner than its predecessor. Some reports tend be more specific saying that the device would be exactly 8 millimeters thick.

Super AMOLED Plus Display: A new report surfaced earlier this month, suggesting that the third incarnation of the Galaxy S series may feature a new screen. The report in Korean publication DDaily (Google translation) said that Galaxy S3 would sport a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED Plus display which would be the first of its kind. With a 720p display (316 ppi), the screen could be a real game changer for Samsung.

The new piece of information contradicted earlier reports saying that Galaxy S3 would feature a 4.8 inch, full HD 1080P resolution display with 16:9 aspect ratio.

12-Megapixel Rear Camera: Rumors about the camera feature in Samsung Galaxy S3 have gone too far, saying that it may feature a 12 megapixel 4000x3000 pixels camera along with features like autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilization features. The phone is also expected to sport a 2 megapixel secondary camera.

Memory: With 2GB RAM, the next Samsung smartphone is likely to have internal storage options of 16/32GB. The device is also expected to support microSD card up to 64GB.

LTE, NFC And Other Specs: Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphone will also likely incorporate LTE and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. As suggested by rumors, features like Bluetooth version 4.0, assisted GPS with GLONASS, Wi-Fi with DLNA and hotspot functionality are also on the cards. The smartphone is expected to feature a 2250mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy S3: The Final Wrap Off

A recent report by ZDNet Korea said that the device would be released in April and it would hit stores in July, in a bid to coincide with Samsung's sponsorship of the London Olympic Games. On the other hand, TechRadar, citing another leaked photo of the device, reported that Galaxy S3 might see the light of the day in May. Thanks to the photo which was posted on the social news website Reddit, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is set for a May 22 launch, in London, the report added.

Another report in Pop Herald pulled in Galaxy S2 into the scene saying that Samsung must reach the 100 percent 'Galaxy S2 with Ice Cream Sandwich' status worldwide before selling a new flagship device, like the widely expected Galaxy S3.

While Samsung has kept it completely under wraps, rumors tend to suggest that the Galaxy S3 is already in the hands of country's carriers for testing.

The Christian Post recently reported, citing another publication AsiaE, that the release date for Samsung Galaxy S3 should be arriving soon as the smartphone is rumored to have entered into testing in Korea, the electronics giant's home base.

Samsung is also believed to accelerate the process for the device that normally takes about two months as it wants to release the smartphone before Apple launches the next iPhone sometime in summer or later this year.
