Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date Nears: T-Mobile Variant Revealed While Research Firm Says Device’s Price Tag Could Fall 24% By Summer

With less than two weeks to go for Samsung’s (KRX:005935) Unpacked 5 event in Barcelona, where the company is expected to unveil the Galaxy S5, its upcoming flagship smartphone, alleged model numbers for the device are showing up regularly, with the latest one said to be of the T-Mobile variant.

On Tuesday, the model number “SM-G900T” was discovered in a User Agent, or UA, profile on Samsung Mobile’s website, which will likely be the identifier for the T-Mobile variant of the device, Phone Arena reported.

The profile also mentioned the device’s screen resolution as 1920x1080, which did not match the information on the purported Galaxy S5 box image, which claimed instead that the phone could sport a QHD resolution of 2560x1440.

Earlier on Tuesday, another UA profile reportedly revealed the model number -- SM-G900P -- for the Sprint variant of the Galaxy S5. In January, the model number SM-G900A -- thought to be of the AT&T variant -- was revealed in a similar manner.

Meanwhile, Idealo, a UK-based research firm said in a report that the price of the Galaxy S5 is likely to fall by 24 percent after its first three months on the market.

“Based on this data, we can predict that after just 3 months, the new Galaxy S5 could be available for just 76% of its original release price, which makes up a price reduction of almost a quarter, just three months on from market release,” the report said.

The report analyzes historical data of sales of Samsung's previous Galaxy flagship smartphones, and according to the research firm, the price evolution of new Samsung Galaxy models follows a similar pattern after their release in the markets.

As for new features to be included in the Galaxy S5, a new image claiming to be from the Feb. 24 event displays several icons for different categories, such as Speed, Outdoor, Curiosity, Fun, Social, Style, Privacy, Fitness and Life. Media reports say that the categories could either indicate new apps or a fresh flat design.
