Samsung Galaxy S7 Active vs. Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge: Specifications, Features, Price Comparison
Samsung has recently introduced the Galaxy S7 Active, a ruggedized version of Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone that was launched in March this year. Here is a comparison of specifications, features and price between Galaxy S7 Active, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
Design and Display
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active measures 148.8 x 75 x 9.9 mm and it weighs 185 grams. The Galaxy S7 measures 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm and its weight is 152 mm. The dimensions of Galaxy S7 Active are 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 mm and its weight is 157 grams.
The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge both feature a metallic frame sandwiched between glass panels on front and rear sides. However, the Galaxy S7 Active features a highly durable polycarbonate chassis along with shock-resistant rubber edges.
The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones have capacitive buttons, but the Galaxy S7 Active feature physical buttons under the display. Moreover, the S7 Active also feature an Active key hardware button on its left side. It can be used to launch user-specified apps. The physical Home buttons on all the three phones feature fingerprint reader.
Like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, the S7 Active is also an IP68 certified device that makes it not only resistant to damage from dust but also from 1.5 meters’ deep water for 30 minutes. The Galaxy S7 Active has also received MIL-STD-810G certification that can protect it from salt, humidity, rain, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock.
The Galaxy S7 Active comes in color choices such as camo green, titanium gray and sandy gold. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are available in color choices such as black, white, gold, silver and pink gold.
The Galaxy S7 Active and Galaxy S7 both feature 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display that support Quad HD resolution. However, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a larger Super AMOLED screen of 5.5-inches that also supports Quad HD resolution. The displays of all three devices are protected by Gorilla Glass 4.
Chipset, RAM and Storage
All the three variants are powered by the same Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. Also, these smartphones are available in storage sizes of 32 GB and 64 GB and they also carry support for microSD card storage. In select markets, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones are powered by Samsung Exynos 8890 chipset instead of Snapdragon 820.
Camera and Software
For photography, the three S7 models feature the same 12-megapixel camera equipped with Samsung’s DualPixel technology that can shoot impressive photos regardless of lightning conditions. It is equipped with features like OIS and LED flash.
For shooting selfies, these smartphones feature 5-megapixel front-facing cameras. The S7 trio come preinstalled with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS that is customized with TouchWiz UI from Samsung.
Battery and Price
The Galaxy S7 has a 3,000 mAh whereas the large-sized Galaxy S7 Edge has a 3,600 mAh battery. The Galaxy S7 Active has a massive battery of 4,000 mAh capacity. These batteries support wireless charging as well as fast charging.
The Galaxy S7 is exclusively available through AT&T and it can be bought outright for $750. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones are available with respective full retail prices of around $700 and $800.
