Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Sports Vertically Aligned Dual Cameras In Leaked Renders
While everyone’s attention may seem to be focused on what Samsung is planning to do for its Galaxy S8 successor, renders of the Galaxy S9 Plus surfaced online today, drawing more interest to the larger variant of the S flagship series. From the looks of it, the successor to the Galaxy S8 Plus could debut with dual cameras that are vertically aligned just like the camera module on the back of Apple’s iPhone X.
On Thursday, MySmartPrice and @OnLeaks published renders of the Galaxy S9 Plus. The latter has a good track record when it comes to leaking accurate information about unannounced phones, so it won’t be surprising if the leaked renders turn out to be true. The sources also gave a caveat to assure readers that the exclusive renders they shared online are the most accurate in a sea of what seems like baseless rumors and speculations about Samsung’s upcoming smartphones.
Right off the bat, it’s hard to not notice that the Galaxy S9 Plus won’t be straying from the design philosophy that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. It’s worth pointing out though that the South Korea giant may have opted to make the successor a little bit smaller. While the Galaxy S8 Plus launched with a 6.2-inch screen, the exclusive renders feature a 6.1-inch display. In addition, the top and bottom bezels in the S9 Plus are expected to be 0.1mm thinner than the Galaxy S8 Plus’ bezels. Also, the S9 Plus measures 157.7 x 73.8 x 8.5mm, so it’s certainly going to be slightly shorter than the S8 Plus which measures 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1mm.
Another striking feature spotted in the renders is the presence of a dual-camera setup at the back of the S9 Plus. The S8 Plus debuted with a singe-lens back camera, so this is a big update for fans. Samsung may have also taken some cues from Apple’s iPhone X because the dual-lens camera system on the S9 Plus is vertically aligned. Unlike the iPhone X though, the back camera module is positioned somewhere between the back of the device instead of the upper left corner.
Sadly, it looks like Samsung isn’t ready to adopt an in-display fingerprint reader for the Galaxy S8 Plus’ successor just yet. The leaked renders show that the fingerprint sensor of the device is located just below the dual-camera setup. It’s no longer in an awkward placement, so perhaps fans would favor the successor over its predecessor.
MySmartPrice also noted that the heart-rate sensor and the single-LED flash of the upcoming smartphone is placed at the right side of the dual-lens module. Moreover, fans can also expect the USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, loudspeaker, primary microphone, secondary microphone, volume rocker, SIM card + microSD card slot and the iris scanner to be present on both the Galaxy S9 Plus and its smaller sibling, the Galaxy S9.
