Samsung Might Launch Foldable Galaxy X In January, Galaxy S10 In February
Various reports are claiming that Samsung might launch the Galaxy S10 in January, while the Galaxy X foldable smartphone will launch in February. However, a notable leaker claims that it’s actually the other way around.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 is said to launch in February during Mobile World Congress 2019, while the Galaxy X will launch in January during CES 2019, according to leaker Ice Universe (@UniverseIce). If this is true, then it means that Samsung’s foldable smartphone will be available to purchase sometime in February. Samsung is expected to only manufacture between 300,000 and 500,000 units of its foldable smartphone. This is a way for the South Korean phone maker to gauge the marketability of the device.
What’s interesting about today’s news is that Samsung appears to be sticking to its usual release schedule for its Galaxy S series in 2019. The Galaxy S10 will launch at MWC 2019, like this year’s Galaxy S9 lineup, as pointed out by Phone Arena. This may mean that Samsung isn’t too worried about the low sales of this year’s S9 models. It was originally believed that Samsung would target a January launch for the S10, so that it could make up for the sluggish sales of the Galaxy S9.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 is rumored to arrive in three variants: a 5.8-inch model with a “flat” display and a single camera on its back, a 5.8-inch model with a curved panel and dual cameras on its back, and a 6.3-inch model that will have three cameras on its back. It was also reported last week that Samsung might actually increase the size of the 6.3-inch model to 6.44 inches as a countermeasure for Apple’s rumored 6.46-inch iPhone X “Plus.”
This would also be the first time that Samsung will introduce three variants of its latest Galaxy S flagship. It’s possible that this is part of the company’s new strategy to bolster its flagship sales in 2019. As of late, there’s no information yet on how these three models will differ in terms of their internal specs.
In the meantime, Samsung fans are still anticipating the launch of the Galaxy Note 9. Samsung has already sent out invites for an Unpacked event in New York City on Aug. 9. It’s believed that the Note 9 will be announced during the press event. The phablet has already passed through the FCC and it’s been confirmed that its S Pen stylus will have more functionalities thanks to its Bluetooth functionality.
