Samsung Mistakenly Leaks That Kate Upton Will Cover U.S. Vogue Magazine For First Time
Kate Upton will grace the latest cover Vogue's U.S. edition, Samsung accidentally revealed in a press release this week.
The 20-year-old model has yet to appear on the magazine's cover, though she has already appeared on the cover of Vogue's Italy and U.K. editions.
Upton is set to attend a Samsung TV launch event in New York next week, and the company issued a press release stating, “Kate Upton can chat about her upcoming Vogue cover in June, where she’s taking her bikini for Spring Break after shooting the SI cover in Antarctic…and maybe do the Dougie!” The Daily Mail reports.
The information was neither confirmed nor denied by publisher Condé Nast.
Though Upton is the latest “It” girl, that has not always been the case.
Last February, Sophia Neophitou, a fashion editor who oversees the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show lineup, said this about Upton, according to ABC: "She's like a footballer's wife, with the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy."
Upton might not make the cut for Victoria's Secret, but Vogue has been more than willing to work with her.
In October, for a spread in the U.S. version of the magazine, Upton was shot by top photographer Steven Meisel. She was shown in a sexy backless one-piece in addition to chic fashion wear.
The spread is appropriately titled "The New Girl," as Upton first appeared in Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue last year and was its cover model last year and this year.
In the issue, Upton talks about keeping her curves in a weight-obsessed industry.
“I don’t want to starve myself. I still want to hang out with my family and be a normal girl," she says. "You have to be confident, and that doesn’t mean starving yourself."
Upton adds, “I think it’s important to look at magazines and think a healthy lifestyle is attainable. Now that the fashion industry likes the idea of me, I’m happy if I can have an influence."
