Samsung Unveils 'iPad-Killer' Tablets: Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 And Galaxy Tab S2 9.7
Samsung has unveiled its slimmest and lightest tablets: the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, which measures 5.6 millimeters and weighs 265 grams, and the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 , which measures 5.6 millimeters and weighs 389 grams.
Both the tablets are dubbed as iPad-killer devices, as the Apple iPad measures 9.7 inches and the iPad Mini measures 8 inches.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 comes with a Super AMOLED display of 8 inches. It offers a display resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels. It is powered by an octa-core processor. Samsung’s news release does not reveal the manufacturer of the chipset. The SoC is supported by 3 GB of RAM.
It will be available in two internal-storage variants of 32 GB and 64 GB. The external storage of the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 supports up to 128 GB of microSD flash memory on its external. It will be shipped with Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system (OS).
The rear camera of the tablet is of 8 MP whereas the front houses a 2.1 MP shooter. The device also features a fingerprint sensor. It is packed with a battery of 4,000 mAh capacity.
The Galaxy S2 Tab 9.7 is fitted with a 9.7-inch Super AMOLED screen that delivers a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels. It is also powered by the same octa-core processor and 3 GB of RAM. Available in storage variants of 32 GB and 64 GB models, the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 supports 128 GB of microSD on external storage.
It will also come with Android 5.0 Lollipop, 8 MP rear and 2.1 MP frontal cameras and a fingerprint sensor. It is equipped with a bigger battery of 5,870 mAh capacity.
Both the devices come with Microsoft Office Solutions and 100 GB of OneDrive cloud storage for two years. The Book Cover Keyboard that comes with an inbuilt trackpad can be attached to both the tablets for using them like a standard PC.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 Tab 8.0 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 will be available in Wi-Fi only, as well as Wi-Fi and 4G LTE versions. Both the tablets will be made available for purchase globally starting in August.
