  • A trademark filing reveals Samsung is working on a new Galaxy Buds model
  • The new model is called "Galaxy BudsX"
  • This could be the bean-shaped earbuds reported earlier

A trademark registration with the U.K. Intellectual Property Office reveals that Samsung is working on a new pair of wireless earbuds with an official name.

The registration, spotted by Let's Go Digital (via Digital Trends) and Galaxy Club (via 9To5Google), reveals that the South Korean giant's next pair of truly wireless earbuds will be called the “Galaxy BudsX.”

The trademark registration does not reveal any detail about the upcoming audio accessory save for an April 27 filing date and a “class 9” category indicating that it is an electronic device. The trademark filing shows that class 9 items include smart watches, wireless earsets and headsets, and more.

Could this be the bean-shaped Galaxy Buds?

While the filing does not reveal anything about the device, previous reports talked about Samsung as working on a new pair of earbuds with a totally new design. The new audio accessory has bean-shaped earbuds, some microphones facing outward, and is believed to offer features that could allow it to rival Apple's AirPods Pro.

Here's a quick look at what this audio device could offer:

  • A bean-shaped body

As per earlier reports from Korean news sites, the new earbuds will be shaped like a bean and will be meant to fit the natural contours of the human ear. This is a huge departure from how traditional earbuds look, particularly the Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Buds+, AirPods and AirPods Pro.

  • Active Noise Cancellation

The earbud, which the International Business Times previously referred to as the “Galaxy Beans,” is said to feature active noise cancellation. It's unclear how the device will make it work considering its peculiar shape, but reports say the feature will allow the audio device to offer “superior audio quality.”

  • A cheap price

According to multiple reports, the new Galaxy earbuds will sell for 170,000 won in Korea, which converts to about $140. This makes this premium and oddly-shaped audio accessory cheaper than Samsung's Galaxy Buds+, and way more affordable than the AirPods Pro.

That said, fans should all take this information with a grain of salt. Samsung hasn't confirmed any of this yet, save for the name indicated in the trademark filing. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
