The San Francisco International Airport announced that it is the first airport to offer rapid onsite COVID-19 testing for all airport employees.

The airport has partnered with Dignity Health-GoHealth Urgent Care to provide employee COVID-19 testing at the airport and at off-site care locations. The COVID-19 rapid testing is currently returning test results in less than an hour, which the airport said it expects to further reduce.

“SFO continues to take action to protect the health and safety of both our employees and our travelers,” airport Director Ivar C. Satero, said in a statement. “Thanks to this partnership with Dignity Health-GoHealth Urgent Care, SFO is the first U.S. airport to offer convenient testing for airport employees with rapid results.”

San Francisco International Airport said it is offering the COVID-19 testing for employees to “ensure their ongoing health and well-being.” The airport first launched a test program with airline flight crews in late July.

At the beginning of the pandemic, the airport had about 45,000 employees working there – a number that has since declined, The Hill reported.

The U.S. has reported more than 5.7 million positive cases of the coronavirus, with more than 176,000 COVID-19 deaths, according to John Hopkins University.
