President-elect Barack Obama has approached its medical correspondent CNN and CBS News, Sanjay Gupta, to be the country's next general surgeon.

Gupta, a neurosurgeon, said that he wants the job, and he asked for a few days to figure out the financial and logistical details of moving his family from Atlanta to Washington but is expected to accept the offer.

He is Former White House fellow who worked with Hillary Clinton on health care policy in the late 90s. The surgeon general typically isn't heavily involved in shaping an administration's policy, but it can be a very effective bully pulpit for someone who is media savvy.

Sanjay Gupta, 39, is married to Rebecca Olson Gupta currently pregnant and they have three children namely Sage, Skye, and Neal.
