Santa Claus’ net worth could be in the tens of billions if he were a real, living being.
GOBankingRates.com estimated the fictional Christmas icon's net worth to be over $51 billion. A list made by Forbes almost two decades ago also ranked Santa Claus at the top of the richest fictional characters ever but suggested that Father Christmas' wealth is so huge that it can't be counted.
Second on Forbes' list is Richie Rich, the character played by Macaulay Culkin in the 1994 film of the same name, with $24.7 billion. He is followed by “Little Orphan Annie's” Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks and Scrooge McDuck, who have $10 billion and $8.2 billion imagined fortunes, respectively.
Tied for fifth in the richest fictional characters list are “Gilligan's Island's” Thurston Howell and Willy Wonka with $8 billion each. Others mentioned in the top 10 were Batman/Bruce Wayne, Superman nemesis Lex Luthor, Cruela de Vil and Jay Gatsby.
In its 2018 deep dive into the wealth of Santa Claus, GoBankingRates.com "investigated" how the character would have made his fortune and identified his assets.
The website suggested that the bearded man would have owned his own reindeer farm, with sleighs being his choice of transportation. Imagining it as a parcel delivery service similar to Amazon, the reindeers’ special ability of flying could easily boost its value and make its price tag soar. The report estimated a reindeer under Santa Claus’ care to be priced at $100,000 each or about $11 million in total.
Aside from the predicted reindeer farm, the mythical figure is expected to have an elf complex that assists him in making toys. The elf complex’s value is estimated to be $530 million.
His collection of antique toys would be worth looking at as well. The price of a toy, when considered rare, goes up as time goes by. Santa Claus' collection of toys that got lost were restored and given another run at life. The estimated value of this imaginary collection is $242,500.
As the leading character of the festive season, Santa Claus’ image, name and photos are used worldwide in different merchandise and products. If he trademarked his image and name, he could be earning a lot more from royalties, possibly around billions by now.
All these are just speculations and products of the imagination, but while there is no way to know how vast Santa Claus’ fortunes would have been, it is still worth pondering this holiday season.
