The Duchess of York had been a royal outcast for years, but this seemed to have changed after she got an invite to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's royal wedding. After a few months, Ferguson returned to the royal spotlight when her daughter Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank.

In an interview with "Good Morning Britain," Piers Morgan recalled the event and told Ferguson, "It was like your comeback moment to the firm."

"I wanted to cry. It was quite extraordinary," Ferguson said about the event (as quoted by Daily Star). "I really sort of looked around and thought ‘are they doing it for me?’, then someone went Fergie and it was like the old Fergie is back. I felt that sense (that the old Fergie is back) from the crowd which is really lovely."

Ferguson also gave a shout out to Prince Harry and Markle for inviting her to their wedding. According to her, it was a big turning point in her life, especially since she didn't receive an invite to Prince William and Middleton's royal wedding in 2011.

"I felt very honoured and grateful to Harry and Meghan to invite me," Ferguson said. "That is a big, big thing."

Ferguson also recognized Queen Elizabeth II. "I think Her Majesty is an incredible lady, and what an icon to the country," the duchess added. "(She is) one of the finest people on the world I’ve ever met. Her Majesty leads by such example that to be so inclusive, to include me, it is a wonderful gesture."

Queen Elizabeth II and Ferguson have been in good terms prior to Princess Eugenie's big day. According to an insider, the monarch was impressed with how Ferguson brought up Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.

Also, the Queen has been understanding and supportive of Ferguson even after the latter's divorce to Prince Andrew. In fact, they met secretly.

"The Duchess used to go over and see the Queen on Sundays with her children very often, and she’d come back with varying degrees of enthusiasm [over] the support she was being promised," Allan Starkie said.

"At one point, the Queen invited the Duchess to come for the Christmas holidays, but to stay in a farmhouse," he added. "She wanted to see her grandchildren. She told the Duchess 'If you come, maybe we can meet secretly and at least I can see my grandchildren for Christmas.'"
