Sarah Ferguson Looks Back At 'Extraordinary, Unfathomable' Royal Wedding With Prince Andrew
Sarah Ferguson has fond memories of the day she married Prince Andrew.
Prince Andrew and Ferguson's youngest daughter, Princess Eugenie, is walking down the aisle in October. In Ferguson's latest interview with Piers Morgan, she opened up about her wedding day an how it was stepping onto the world as a royal wife.
"Let me go back in time," Ferguson said (via Daily Express). "You are taken with such a wave of energy, that it is just mesmeric, it is just extraordinary."
"And you're so in love -- anyway, it's your wedding day," she continued. "Like every bride's wedding day, it's a special day. And you've got a beautiful dress on. But you're standing there with the man you love. And then there are people out there who are wishing you so well. And it's just extraordinary. It's just unfathomable. You can't explain it."
The Duke and Duchess of York married on July 23, 1986 at Westminster Abbey. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce, but the exes remain amicable and have nothing but praises to each other. In fact, years after they split, Ferguson said she loved the man she married.
"And when I went up that aisle, I had - I married my man," she told Piers in 2011. "I also married a sailor. And I got a prince. But my man was the most important thing for me, Piers, because nothing was more important than him."
Ferguson and Prince Andrew reportedly split after she was caught in a scandalous photo with her financial advisor, John Bryan. According to royal experts, it was the last straw.
"She was famously photographed with her financial advisor and she was wearing a bikini in some garden in the south of France and he appeared to be sucking her toes," royal biographer Penny Juror said in the documentary. "She was at Balmoral when those photographs came out. The family came down for breakfast and there was Fergie in this shocking scene and that was the end."
Many believe that this is the reason the members of the royal family are cold to the Duchess of York. In fact, she was not invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding in 2011. However, she was present at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials because the Duchess of Sussex reportedly fought the palace just to send her an invite. Prince Harry and Ferguson have a great relationship that's why the groom wanted his aunt to be there on his wedding day.
