Sarah Ferguson Never Saw Prince Andrew As A Royal For This Reason

Sarah Ferguson reportedly never saw Prince Andrew while they were dating and even after they got married.

In an unearthed interview from 1996 hosted by Canadian TV journalist Dini Petty, Ferguson spoke candidly about her relationship with the prince. She said that she had no idea what the royal family was like before she married Prince Andrew. She also said that she didn’t look at him as someone who is part of the royal family but just as her man.

“When you’re not aware, I was running around being the pleaser, pleasing everybody, wanting approval, thinking I can do anything. And suddenly this wonderful man, and I was caving love, a great looking prince came into my life. But I didn’t see him as a prince, I saw him as my man, and I married my man,” she said.

Shortly after their wedding, Prince Andrew left for the Royal Navy. The Duchess of York said that she only had the opportunity to see her husband 42 days a year. Ferguson said that being by herself in the huge royal household in Buckingham Palace was a struggle.

Meanwhile, during the same interview, Petty asked Ferguson if she had dreamed of marrying a prince when she was just a little girl. The mom of two said that she didn’t because she was a bit of a tomboy and wanted to be an Olympic show jumper.

Ferguson and Prince Andrew divorced 10 years after tying the knot. But even after their split, they maintained an amicable relationship with each other. Last year, they reunited in public at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

And during an interview with Daily Mail, Ferguson said that she and Prince Andrew are the happiest divorced couple in the world.

“We’re divorced to each other, not from each other. July 23, 1986, was the happiest day of my life… Andrew is the best man I know,” she said.
