Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana were best friends, but since they were also very different from each other, they oftentimes got into fights. While they were vacationing in Klosters with their husbands, the competition between the two female royals worsened.

In her autobiography “My Story,” Fergie recounted her vacation with Princess Diana, Prince Charles, and Prince Andrew. The Duchess of York was in her element because she had been skiing for years, but Princess Diana was a newbie.

According to the mom of two, it was evident that the Princess of Wales was struggling while trying to maneuver herself down the slopes but she fought hard to survive during the trip. And Ferguson cannot deny the fact that it must have been hell for the late royal.

And to make things worse, Prince Charles prodded his wife at that time and compared her to Ferguson.

“She was going through one of her rough patches, didn’t ski that well anyway, longed to stay inside – and there was rosy-cheeked Fergie, hearty to the last, always in crashing good form. I must have been maddening to her – especially after Charles prodded her, and not for the last time, ‘Why can’t you be more like Fergie?’” she wrote.

In the book “The Diana Chronicles,” royal author Tina Brown echoed Ferguson’s story. She said that when Fergie first joined the royal family, Prince Charles was quite smitten about her. Unlike Princess Diana, the Duchess of York was enchanting and she also had a zest for life.

The heir to the throne would oftentimes ask his wife why she couldn’t be more like Fergie. And this is where the jealousy between the two female royals started. Princess Diana couldn’t understand why Ferguson had so much fun during their ski trip while she looked like a hot mess.

And Ferguson, on the other hand, was obsessed with how thin the late royal was because she had been struggling with her weight all her life. She was also jealous of how thin, elegant, and beautiful Princess Diana was compared to her.
