Sarah Ferguson Shockingly Delayed Princess Eugenie’s Christening, ‘Out-Wailed’ Church Organ With Her Crying
Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew broke royal protocol with the christening of their second daughter, Princess Eugenie.
Unlike her older sister Princess Beatrice, and their older cousins, Princess Eugenie was baptized when she was already 9 months old. The majority of her cousins were baptized when they were approximately 4 months old.
According to People, the Duke and Duchess of York opted to wait for a few more months before they had Princess Eugenie baptized to make sure that Prince Andrew would be present at the ceremony. At that time, Prince Andrew was still working as a naval flight commander.
“Princess Eugenie Victoria Helena, second daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, out-wailed even the church organ during her 15-minute baptism, a December 23 ceremony that was unusual in both its timing and its site,” a source said.
Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson also ruffled a few feathers at her daughter’s christening when she named her choices for Princess Eugenie’s godmothers. Her selections reportedly caused upper lips to stiffen especially from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
At that time, there was already so much tension in the room because Her Majesty disliked Fergie’s father, Major Ronald Ferguson. As such, he was forced to enter and exit the church through a back door. The source said that the monarch simply cannot stand that sight of Sarah Ferguson’s father.
“Two of Fergie’s choices for godmother caused upper lips to stiffen. Former flatmate Louise 'Lulu' Blacker is said by one tab to greet male chums by grabbing their crotches, and Julia Dodd-Noble was the prankster who coaxed Fergie and Di into trying to crash Andrew’s pre-wedding stag party,” the source said.
And as for Sarah Ferguson’s mother, Susan Barrantes, she reportedly skipped Princess Eugenie’s christening. It is still unclear why she wasn’t there.
Princess Eugenie was baptized on Dec. 23, 1990 at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham by the Bishop of Norwich.
