Sarah Ferguson’s Wedding Dress Featured These ‘Secret’ Love Symbols Eugenie May Copy
Sarah Ferguson’s iconic wedding dress from the 1980s featured several secret love symbols that may also be adorned on Princess Eugenie’s bridal gown.
Emily Hodgkin, a journalist for Express, revealed that Ferguson’s dress was designed by Lindka Cierach. She also designed the dresses of Helen Mirren, Lady Victoria Hervey, and Cherie Blair.
Ferguson’s dress featured several unique details that were created using embroidery and beading, and they depicted the coming together of Ferguson and Prince Andrew.
Bumblebees and thistles were featured on Cierach’s creation as a nod to Ferguson’s family crest. Anchors and waves were also added as a nod to Prince Andrew’s work in the navy. Ferguson’s 17-foot train had the initials “A” and “S” to signify the first letter of Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s names.
Cierach design was reportedly inspired by the dream that she had about the royal couple.
“I wanted the Duchess of York’s sense of fun and joy to come out in the dress. One day I woke up in the middle of the night and had dreamed it, and that was it,” Cierach reportedly said.
Years ago, Ferguson also shared her thoughts about her gown during an interview with Piers Morgan.
“You are taken with such a wave of energy, that it is just mesmeric, it is just extraordinary. And you’re so in love – anyway, it’s your wedding day. Like every bride’s wedding day, it’s a special day. And you’ve got a beautiful dress on. But you’re standing there with the man you love. And then there are people out there who are wishing you so well. And it’s just extraordinary,” she said.
Meanwhile, Prince Andrew and Ferguson’s youngest daughter, Princess Eugenie, will tie the knot to Jack Brooksbank on Oct. 12. There are some rumors suggesting that her wedding dress will be inspired by her mom’s gown. However, Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding attire will be much more modern compared to Ferguson’s dress.
