'Saturday Night Live' Premiere: Watch Michael Che Flub Lines In 'Weekend Update' Debut [POLL]
“Saturday Night Live” kicked off its Season 40 by switching up "Weekend Update" anchors. As reported in early September, Cecily Strong stepped down as Colin Jost's co-host, and newcomer Michale Che replaced her. Che made his debut in the Chris Pratt-hosted season premiere, but did he live up to expectations?
Che flubbed some of his opening lines but managed to get through the segment. Cecily Strong even came back to the "Weekend Update" desk as The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started A Conversation With At A Party. Che attempted to ask her about Ebola, and in typical fashion, she talked about everything else and made no sense. Watch the beginning of the "Weekend Update" segment below:
Che seemed most at home making political jokes which is unsurprising considering that he spent his summer as a correspondent for "The Daily Show." He made plenty of jokes about President Barack Obama and even assured Obama that his low poll numbers are nothing to worry about. “Cheer up, President Obama,” Che said, “because no matter how hard stuff seems right now, things are going to get easier.”
In one of Che's best bits, Kenan Thompson came out to sing while Che and co-anchor Jost reassured the President. “If you had a better approval rating, you’d have to be all over the country, campaigning for other democrats—but they don’t want you anywhere near them now!” Che said. “So why don’t you just skip the campaign tour and hit up the On the Run tour with the real First Family: Jay Z and Beyoncé.”

Che definitely made some funny jokes. He served as a writer on “Saturday Night Live” last year, so that was expected. However, some viewers weren’t sure that he was comfortable in front of the camera or reading off of cue cards. What did you think of Che's first "Weekend Update" segment? Take our poll below!
