Savannah Guthrie Compared To Matt Lauer After NBC Announces Trump Town Hall
Savannah Guthrie is scheduled to host a live town hall with President Donald Trump, and the internet is not happy about it.
After Trump tested positive for COVID-19, his second debate with democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden was switched to a virtual event. However, Trump refused to participate in the debate, and now the two candidates will have separate town halls.
On Wednesday, NBC announced Gutherie as the moderator for the town hall, which resulted in some comparisons to her former “Today” show colleague Matt Lauer.
Spectators online began to suggest that Gutherie was no different than Lauer, who was fired in 2017 following complaints of sexual misconduct with a female employee.
Some noted that like Lauer, Guthrie has exhibited unacceptable behavior over the years and expressed their disappointment over NBC’s decision to broadcast Trump’s town hall.
“Savannah Guthrie was appalled at Matt Lauer’s sexually abusive behavior and now she’ll roll out the red carpet for a man whose sexual abusiveness was so vile and rampant he makes Matt Lauer look like Wally Cleaver. Will @ejeancarroll or any of Trump’s other victims be invited?” one person wrote.
One enraged individual wrote, “Four years ago you had Matt Lauer fellating him every day while Savannah Guthrie watched and giggled. You are at least partially responsible for the freak show despoiling of our once proud nation. I hope you choke on every bite of food you try to eat for the rest of your lives.”
Meanwhile, one person said they weren’t surprised about the announcement because of NBC’s past scandals.
“@nbcnews ah the ratio. But whadya expect from the network that covered Matt Lauer for decades. Or from Savannah Guthrie who only has her job because she was a Lauer enabler too who took the job of Ann Currie that didn’t put up w/his harassment. Pathetic enablers the lot of them,” the individual wrote.
The town hall with President Trump will air on Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC, MSNBC, and CNBC.
