New Girl Scout Cookie Savannah Smiles
A teen is calling for a boycott of Girls Scout cookies because transgender children are inducted into the organization. Girl Scouts have a new cookie, Savannah Smiles, that was added in 2012 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Scouts. www.girlscouts.org

Most people haven't even tasted them yet, but that doesn't seem to be the point. Savannah Smiles, the new Girl Scout cookie, has been one of the hottest topics on the Internet in recent days after it was announced.

The new Savannah Smiles Girl Scout cookie flavor, launched for the organization's annual cookie sale getting underway and in conjunction with the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary, is promised as a lemony delight.

It comes at a 28-count per box, and a serving size is five cookies with 140 calories per serving. Made by Little Brownie Bakers, ingredients include the typical enriched flour, sugar, vegetable oil, dextrose, and lemon juice solids and lemon oil. All Little Brownie Bakery Girl Scout cookies are made without high fructose corn syrup, according to company information.

The Girl Scouts describe the new cookie like this: Celebrate the anniversary of the Girl Scouts with these bite-sized, lemon-wedge cookies dusted in powdered sugar and bursting with lemon flavor. Enjoy these delightful treats, remember where Girl Scouts began...and smile.

The name of the new cookie was inspired by the founder of the Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Low.

Each year, thousands of Girl Scouts visit the founder's historical home, a National Historic Landmark in Savannah. In the time-worn rooms, each girl considers how, 100 years later, Juliette Low's story encourages her to dream big and do great things with her life, said Little Brownie Bakery in a release.

That's why we are so proud to offer this special cookie that will delight customers and remind girls of their rich heritage and unlimited future.

Every cookie has a mission, says Girl Scouts. To help girls do great things.

Cookie sales have been a part of Girl Scouts for more than 80 years.

Girl Scout Cookies had their earliest beginnings in the kitchens and ovens of our girl members, with mothers volunteering as technical advisers, according to the organization. The sale of cookies as a way to finance troop activities began as early as 1917, five years after Juliette Gordon Low started Girl Scouting in the United States. The earliest mention of a cookie sale found to date was that of the Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, which baked cookies and sold them in its high school cafeteria as a service project in December 1917.
