‘Scandal’ Alum Ricardo Chavira Cast In ‘Mission Control’ To Replace Nestor Serrano
“Scandal” alum Ricardo Chavira will be replacing Nestor Serrano in “Mission Control.”
According to TV Line, Chavira will play the role of Diaz, a director of the Johnson Space Station. Serrano already filmed some scenes as Diaz on the first shooting day, but a recast was deemed necessary.
“Mission Control” will follow the lives of a group of NASA scientists who are struggling to balance their professional and personal lives. Other cast members include “Grimm” star David Giuntoli, “Without a Trace” alum Poppy Montgomery, “Frequency” star Peyton List and “The Fosters” alum Levi Fiehler. The pilot for “Mission Control” is executive produced by Brian Buckner. He also serves as showrunner for the upcoming series. He will be joined by Slingshot’s Courtney Conte and Quan Phung, Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood and Charles Eglee, according to Deadline.

Other than the upcoming TV series, Chavira was most recently seen in several TV shows on different networks. In “Scandal” Season 6, Chavira’s Governor Vargas character was killed off. It was only in last week’s episode that his real killer was revealed to be Olivia Pope’s (Kerry Washington) father, Rowan Pope (Joe Morton).
In The CW’s “Jane the Virgin,” Chavira plays the role of Bruce, Xiomara’s (Andrea Navedo) love interest. The couple was in a relationship several years ago, but Bruce bailed on Xiomara. Their on-again-and-off-again relationship took a toll on Xiomara’s daughter, Jane (Gina Rordriguez), who thinks that they are not meant to be together. In the end, Xiomara and Bruce’s relationship is still going strong despite the former’s connection to Jane’s father, Rogelio (Jaime Camil).
The filming for “Jane the Virgin” just wrapped up this week.
