Scarlett Johansson has admitted she got "stuck" playing "bombshell" characters at one point in her career.

"I kind of became, like, an ingénue," Johansson said on the "Table for Two" podcast Tuesday. "Young girls like that are really objectified, and that's just a fact, so I think whatever box they're put into, it sort of sets you on this trajectory for how your life will go."

The 38-year-old actress shared that nowadays women get to "choose their own path" unlike when she was younger.

"I think because of that trajectory that I had been sort of launched towards, I really got stuck in this," she said, adding that she was "groomed in a way" to get cast in "bombshell" kind of roles. "I was playing the other woman and this object of desire and, you know, I suddenly found myself cornered in this place, like, I couldn't get out of it."

The "bombshell" roles "burns bright and quick" and there was not much "opportunity beyond that," she noted.

Johansson, who began her career as a child actor, went on to play leading roles in movies like "Lost in Translation," "Girl with a Pearl Earring" and "The Perfect Score" in her late teens.

The "Black Widow" star also recalled working as a 17-year-old girl on "Lost in Translation" with Bill Murray.

"Our characters have this ... profound relationship and that was hard for me to .. I struggled with that for different reasons," she said. "When I came out of it, it was like this weird fever dream."

Johansson will be next seen in "My Mother's Wedding," which is helmed by Kristin Scott Thomas. It is currently under post-production. She will also feature in the romantic comedy "Project Artemis," which is penned by Rose Gilroy and helmed by Greg Berlanti. Channing Tatum, Jim Rash, Ray Romano and Art Newkirk are also part of the project.

On the personal front, Johansson got married to comedian Colin Jost in 2020. She was previously married to Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017 and to Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011.
