Scarlett Johansson To Work With Wes Anderson Amid Disney Lawsuit
Scarlett Johansson, who recently made headlines for filing a lawsuit against Disney, is all set to work with director Wes Anderson.
The upcoming untitled project will feature the "Grand Budapest Hotel" director's frequent collaborators, including actors Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman.
Besides directing the movie, Anderson has also penned the plot of the upcoming movie. However, the details of Johansson's character and its genre are being kept under wraps. The filming will be complete by late September.
The 36-year-old actress previously collaborated with Anderson for the animated movie "Isle of Dogs," which was released on March 23, 2018. Actors like Bill Murray, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum, Edward Norton and Tilda Swinton lent their voices for the movie.
Anderson's latest movie, "The French Dispatch," premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in June. The romantic comedy movie is slated to release in theaters on Oct. 21.
Johansson was recently seen in "Black Widow," which was released on July 9. The movie earned $80 million at the U.S. box office on its opening weekend and $78 in million worldwide box office.
The actress sued Disney for releasing "Black Widow" simultaneously in theaters and online, noting that it was a breach of contract that cost her millions of dollars. Johansson was supposed to get a percentage of the movie's box office collection, according to the lawsuit filed last month in Los Angeles Superior Court.
"Black Widow" was delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Johansson's attorney, John Berlinski, in a statement to AFP said, "It's no secret that Disney is releasing films like Black Widow directly onto Disney+ to increase subscribers and thereby boost the company's stock price -- and that it's hiding behind Covid-19 as a pretext to do so."
In response to the filing, the company said, "There is no merit whatsoever to this filing. This lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic."
Besides Anderson's movie, the actress will also feature in "Bride," which is currently under pre-production. The movie is helmed by Sebastián Lelio.
