The actor who played drummer Freddy "Spazzy McGee" Jones in the 2003 comedy film "School of Rock" has died after he was struck by a vehicle early Wednesday while riding a bicycle in the Chicago, Illinois neighborhood of Avondale.

Kevin Clark, 32, was hit by a Hyundai Sonata at approximately 1:20 a.m. at an intersection in the 2600 block of North Western Avenue, local newspaper The Chicago Sun-Times first reported.

The Chicago Fire Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said paramedics found him on Logan Boulevard and took him to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:04 a.m.

Clark's sister told TMZ her brother was riding his bike home at the time of the fatal crash.

Police said the 20-year-old female driver of the vehicle was issued citations and subsequently released, a report by the New York Post indicated.

According to WGN-TV, the incident is being investigated by Area Five detectives.

Several of Clark's co-stars from "School of Rock" — his only film credit — shared tributes on social media in response to his demise.

"Devastating news. Kevin is gone. Way too soon. Beautiful soul. So many great memories," 51-year-old Jack Black, who played lead character Dewey Finn, wrote on Instagram.

Rivkah Reyes, 28, who played bassist Katie "Posh Spice," said on Twitter, "[I] will never forget your hugs and your laugh and the sheer joy on your face when we'd run into each other in Chicago."

A memorial for Clark was planned for Wednesday night at Teddy O'Brian's bar located in Highwood, as per the Chicago Sun-Times.

"[W]e're all really in shock. It was just this morning," said Clark's mother, Allison Clark. "He was just a 32-year-old kid. It doesn't make sense."

She pointed out that her son had just started a new band that performed live for the first time over the weekend.

"He told his bandmates just yesterday: You know, this is finally the life I want to live. And we’re going to make it. You’re my musical family — my family — and we’re all going to make it," his mother said.
