'Scream' Drops First Official Poster Featuring Ghostface Mask [Photo]
The official Twitter handle of "Scream" has dropped the upcoming movie installment's first official poster and it features the iconic Ghostface mask.
In the poster, which was posted Sunday, Ghostface, known as the main villain in the "Scream" series, can be seen with a huge blood-stained knife in hand. On the lower part of the poster, the movie's title is printed in bold white. Underneath it is the official release date.
The poster's caption reads, "It's Always Someone You Know. #ScreamMovie – Only in theatres January 14, 2022."
Fans in the comments section shared their mixed reactions to the poster and the upcoming movie itself.
While some fans noted how the remake isn't really necessary, other fans came to the movie's defense by saying it's not a remake but a sequel to the fourth installment.
One of the users even said they hope the original cast, which includes Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell and David Arquette, survive in the fifth installment, otherwise, they will lose interest.
Some fans also noted that the upcoming installment, which is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, should be called "Scream 5" instead of using the same title as the original one to make it clear it's a sequel and not a remake.
The newly released poster doesn't come with any hint about the movie's plot but based on its caption, the killer is someone known to the protagonists.
The first installment of the franchise, which was helmed by Wes Craven, was released in 1996. Only a year later, in 1997, its second installment came out. At that time, the names of the killers were leaked before the release, due to which the movie had to be rewritten and refilmed. Its third installment didn't arrive until three years later, in 2000.
However, it took the franchise 11 years to drop the movie's fourth installment, which hit the theaters in 2011. Then, after another 11 years, the fifth installment is finally arriving next year.
It can be recalled that in November last year, Cox took to Instagram to flaunt the franchise's popular Ghostface mask worn by someone who appears to be cutting her hair in the photo.
Later that month, the actress also shared a throwback photo with Craven, noting that the filming of "Scream" just wrapped.
Cox, who is also known for her role as Monica Geller on the famous sitcom "Friends," will be next seen on the shows "Shining Vale" and "Last Chance U."
