Scuba Diver Encounters Great White Shark Off Florida Coast, Shares Video
A scuba diver shared a thrilling video of his close encounter with a massive great white shark Tuesday during a dive charter trip in Florida.
“Only need two words to describe diving West Palm with Walker’s Dive Charters today: Great White!” diver Jim Cocci wrote on his Facebook page.
Cocci, of Viera, was diving near Mar-a-Lago when his fellow diver was notified about the shark’s presence near the Breakers reef, which was about a mile from the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, CBS 12 reported.
They went there to spot the shark. After 20 minutes’ dive into the water, they were finally able to catch a glimpse of it.
"The great white shark came out of the mist," Cocci said. He recorded the video from just feet away from the apex predator of the ocean.
Cocci said the shark might be between 15-20 feet in length. He said it “looked as big as a box car.” He followed it and realized it was a “big pregnant female.”
He said it was his first ever encounter with such an enormous shark in his 53 years of diving experience.
The shark eventually disappeared into the sea.
In December, an Australian fisherman posted a 40-minute-long dramatic video of two great white sharks feeding on the carcass of a whale near the coast of Yallingup in Western Australia. The man and his friend were fishing in about 12 kilometers offshore when the sharks burst into sight. The sharks were said to be measuring over 4-4.5 meters.
