Russell Wilson, the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, is leaving nothing to chance after getting an insurance policy for the upcoming NFL season. Wilson and the Seahawks have yet to agree on a long-term contract extension, putting Wilson in a risky financial situation should he suffer a major injury in 2015.

Adam Schefter of ESPN posted the development on Twitter, confirming that the insurance policy is worth millions of dollars.

Because he was a third-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Wilson’s rookie scale salary will pay him just over $1.5 million for the 2015 season if no restructuring of the contract happens before the season starts.

The 26-year-old Wilson is looking for a big payday after becoming a star quarterback the past two seasons, leading the Seahawks to two Super Bowl appearances, including one victory. Wilson is most likely looking at the salaries of the top QBs in the league.

Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints will earn about $26.4 million for 2015 while Eli Manning ($19.7 million) of the New York Giants and Matt Ryan ($19.5 million) of the Atlanta Falcons are also among the highest paid players in the NFL.
