Sean Lowe Disses ‘The Bachelor’; Why Did Former Bachelor Call ABC Reality Show ‘Cheesy’?
After Sean Lowe appeared on “The Bachelor” for two consecutive seasons, one as a contestant vying for Emily Maynard’s love and another as the season 17 bachelor himself, you’d think the blond hunk would have some nice things to say about the ABC reality series.
But such is not the case. During a new short film for the Christian nonprofit titled “I Am Second,” the Texan opened up about how he really felt about the smash show we all religiously watch on Monday nights.
“Never in a million years did I think I would do a cheesy reality TV show about love,” Lowe said, regarding his appearance on “The Bachelorette” in 2012. According to reports, Lowe’s sister Shay turned in the application on his behalf, despite his skepticism.
“After about four or five weeks of getting to spend time with the Bachelorette, I thought, ‘I kind of like being around her,’” he admitted. “’Wow, I’m actually developing feelings for this girl when there are all these cameras around. This is kinda nuts. I can see myself being her husband.” After six weeks filming for the reality show, Lowe had fallen in love with Maynard. But the feeling was not returned. The bachelorette sent him home a week before the finale, resulting in her engagement to Jef Holm.
In an attempt to move on, Lowe accepted ABC’s offer when they presented him with the idea of becoming the next Bachelor — even though he felt the gig went against his morals. "It's unnatural to date 25 women at one time, and it felt wrong," he admits. "A lot of the time, it felt wrong. I wrestled with it quite a bit, thinking, 'I'm pretty sure God opened this door, but what if he didn't? What if it's just an opportunity that came about, and what if I'm actually harming my testimony by going on a show and dating multiple people at one time, and kissing multiple people?'"
But, in the end Lowe found that he had lips — and eyes — for only one contestant: Catherine Guidici. The duo married this Jan. 26, and broadcast their nuptials live for fans to watch on TV.
What do you think of Lowe’s “Bachelor” diss? Were you surprised to hear him call the reality show cheesy?
